A Prince George’s County man is facing charges in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred earlier this month in Montgomery County, Maryland.

According to Montgomery County police, Thomas Eugene Whiting, 23, of Laurel, was arrested and charged on April 6 in connection with an armed carjacking in the 260 block of Congressional Lane in Rockville.

Whiting rushed away in the Toyota on Congressional Lane toward East Jefferson Street after the man cooperated with Whiting’s demand.

At 9:59 p.m., authorities located the stolen Toyota and pursued it into Prince George’s County to Maryland Route 4, where the pursuit was called off.

Montgomery County police claimed that two days later, on April 8, D.C. police officers noticed the red Toyota on Anacostia Road in Southeast at approximately 5 p.m.

Officers from the District of Columbia Police Department identified the vehicle as to the stolen Rockville vehicle and apprehended the driver. Whiting was detained after officers discovered a black handgun between the car’s center console and the driver’s seat.

Police said there was an active arrest warrant for Whiting for failure to appear in court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm. Whiting is being held in the D.C. jail without bond.

He faces charges of carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle, not having a permit, and being a fugitive from justice, in Montgomery County.
