Murder Charges Laid Against Suspect In Car Theft And Crash Incident In DC
Kayla Kenisha Brown, 22, is charged with felony murder, kidnapping, and carjacking after stealing a car with 55-year-old Leslie Marie Gaines inside.
Brown took the car from MedStar Washington Center Hospital, where she was taken by D.C. EMS due to erratic behavior allegedly caused by drugs obtained from a man on Instagram.
Gaines’ daughter reported the carjacking, leading to a crash at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Northwest D.C., where Gaines died.
Brown attempted to flee but was apprehended. The motive and details of the incident are still under investigation. Brown is held without bond pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday.F
