An intruder was killed after being shot by a U.S. Secret Service agent at the Peruvian ambassador’s residence in Northwest Washington, D.C. D.C., early Wednesday morning According to Police Chief Robert Contee.

Authorities say they responded to a burglary in progress in the 3000 block of Garrison Street Northwest shortly before 8 a.m. and discovered a man hiding near the house.

Agents discovered that the invader had smashed out multiple windows of the property, according to Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee. Agents approached the intruder and used their taser to subdue the man, who was clutching a metal stake, according to police.

When tasers failed to work, agents fired rounds at the person.

The individual has died, according to Contee, and the situation is still being investigated. The ambassador and their family were at home at the time of the incident, according to police, but no one else was hurt.

Authorities claim they had no idea why the man was visiting the home of the Peruvian Ambassador.
