Take Some “Time” To Listen To Mel Drugz And GWalk’s new single

New Jersey artist Mel Drugz continues to develop his voice as a storyteller with the release of “TIME” featuring Gwalk, a record centered on emotional accountability, personal growth, and the complicated intersection between love and self-destruction.

Rather than approaching romance from an idealized perspective, “TIME” examines attachment, regret, and the psychological weight of unresolved relationships. Mel Drugz describes the record as an honest reflection of chasing what he once believed was love, only to later recognize deeper emotional dependencies beneath the surface. That level of introspection has become central to his artistry, as he emphasizes that each song in his catalog is rooted in lived experience rather than performance.

The track also captures a pivotal stage in the artist’s personal development. Themes of maturity and discipline emerge throughout the record, particularly in moments where he reflects on distancing himself from environments and relationships that no longer contributed to his growth. For Mel Drugz, becoming a man was less about image and more about self-awareness, accountability, and learning through difficult experiences.

A major thematic layer within “TIME” is its exploration of substance reliance and emotional instability, concepts that connect directly to his broader DRUGZ CAMPAIGN mixtape. Instead of glamorizing either subject, the song presents both as intertwined struggles. Mel Drugz explains that the emotions embedded in the track—love, confusion, regret, and self-destruction—were not strategically written, but surfaced naturally through the recording process itself. The result is a record that feels emotionally immediate and unfiltered.

The collaboration with Gwalk developed in a similarly organic way. According to Mel Drugz, the session emerged spontaneously after he visited Gwalk’s home to clear his mind. What began as conversation quickly evolved into creativity, with the pair completing the song in roughly thirty minutes. That spontaneity contributes to the rawness that defines the record.

“TIME” also arrives during a period of increasing recognition for the artist. Following the success of his single “Manifest,” which earned consecutive spins on Hot 97 through DJ Drewski, Mel Drugz continues to build momentum without losing focus on artistic consistency. Rather than viewing the attention as pressure, he interprets it as motivation to continue evolving creatively.

At its core, however, “TIME” remains grounded in emotional honesty. Mel Drugz explains that he wants listeners to feel the love behind the music, even when the subject matter becomes painful or self-critical. That balance between vulnerability and reflection is what gives the record its emotional weight.

As his catalog continues to expand, “TIME” stands as both a personal reflection and a statement of direction—one that suggests Mel Drugz is less interested in superficial storytelling and more focused on documenting the realities of growth, relationships, and identity in real time.
