Amtrak attempting to take control of Union Station
According to the Washington Post, Amtrak is attempting to take control of D.C.’s Union Station.
According to the article, Amtrak is attempting to seize control of the station through eminent domain. Earlier this week, the corporation filed a court complaint in response to the request.
The station’s ownership is currently divided into two parties. The station structure and parking are owned by the US Department of Transportation, but Amtrak manages the platforms and tracks.
According to Amtrak officials, the move to take over the entire station is vital in order to finish long-planned upgrades at the station. These include concourse additions and extensive repairs to the station’s tunnels.
According to the article, the station’s current operators will continue to operate the station until a judge rules on Amtrak’s request. When a decision is expected has not been specified.
