Bowie State to host holiday singalong
D.C. and Northern Virginia often perform Handel’s Messiah around the holidays.
Handel’s Messiah returns to Prince George’s County this year.
The Bowie State Fine and Performing Arts Center Recital Hall will hold a community messiah singalong on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Bowie State University associate choir director Brandon Felder said they would wear black and white and sing classics and Haitian and South African songs.
Felder stated, “We’re also performing an arrangement of Ave Maria which is not your standard arrangement of Ave Maria, but it has kind of a classical jazz undertone.
Felder said the singalong is important because COVID-19 canceled many holiday performances in recent years.
Felder added, “It’s the first time in two or three years we’re bringing the community together. I think our music lacks that. empathy and belonging.”
Felder stated all singers are equal. Free tickets can be found in this link.
He invited anyone with a voice to join in.
