The Story of Champ Powell

Growing up, Champ Powell’s first love was art, and to be specific, it was drawing. When he was about 9 years old, he began tracing and very soon felt the need to try it on his own and use his own imagination to create something new. Visual design was always one of his strong suits as a kid and was something that everyone around would say that he should pursue a career in the art world. As a kid, he had hoop dreams. Before he pursued a career in art, he had hoped of going to the NBA. However, he always was honest with me and believed in my vision and passion and yes, he did want to go to the league but my reasoning was valid. He was money-driven.

In high school, he played football and lacrosse and when he wasn’t playing football, he was managing the football team. This is also when he began designing in the Interactive Media Production program at Parkville High School.

Mentally, Champ went through a lot in high school and it was to the point that he would question my reason for being and he called on God to show me my purpose in life. It was then – in 11th grade – that he showed that he here to [Motivate, Inspire, and Create Opportunity] for those around me. He believes that he can serve a bigger purpose through his contribution to sports & entertainment.

Champ now wears the hats of a graphic designer and talent manager. His career as a graphic designer stemmed from being in college at St. John’s University in NY and having a skill that people and organizations lacked.  He’s serving his purpose through art by having the ability to help others start their business, start their career, being apart of the journey and he’s very grateful for those that have allowed him to be apart of their story. Champ is now the founder of Designed By Champ.

His career as a talent manager actually stemmed from a close friend, Zion McFarland. In high school, he told Champ “man you should be a scout or something” because he was always knowledgeable on the opponents and athletes in the city and state with amazing communication skills. Once he said that the process started, Champ started to do research on careers in sports and entertainment that was behind the scenes and fell in love with artist and talent management. The ability to help someone grow and become who it is that they want to be, the ability to help someone achieve, the ability to push and motivate your client to the point that they have no doubts in their talent and have newfound confidence — that is what makes me happy. And that is exactly what he aims to do with each of my music artists. His goal is to manage both music artists and athletes.

He lives by this statement:

“Stop Aspiring, Start Inspiring”
What this means is — stop “wanting” to do something, stop telling you what you’ll do later, and get up and doing now.

Fun facts:

  • Started doing college researching in 7th grade.
  • Overcame Depression
  • Dropped out of school to bet on myself and my beliefs
