A 19-year-old man was shot in Hagerstown Mall parking lot, suspect was apprehended by police

A 19-year-old man was shot outside of a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Washington County, Md., on Wednesday according to the sheriff’s office.

According to a news statement, deputies were summoned to Valley Mall in Hagerstown around 6:30 p.m. for reports of shots fired and discovered a 19-year-old shooting victim inside.

Officials say the person was brought by EMS to Meritus Medical Center for further treatment on Thursday. His current state is unknown.

Deputies identified the shooter as Matthew Lookabaugh, 21, of Hagerstown.

According to deputies, Lookabaugh and a juvenile witness were in a verbal dispute with the victim in the mall’s parking lot before he was shot.

Lookabaugh was arrested and taken to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment.

The investigation is still going on.
