In Towson, a Baltimore County police officer was shot & the suspect was killed
One officer was injured and a suspect was killed in a Baltimore County police shooting in Towson on Saturday night.
Officers were summoned to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Virginia Ave around 8:40 p.m. Saturday night for unknown issues, according to Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt.
When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they heard what they thought was gunshots and immediately went to one of the top stories.
They came upon a man with a weapon departing an apartment unit when they arrived. At that point, there was a gunfight in which a cop was shot and the suspect was killed.
The officer was taken to a local hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect died at the scene.
Officers discovered an injured person suffering from a life-threatening injury inside the apartment where the armed suspect was observed fleeing.
That individual was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident was captured on video by a body-worn camera, according to Hyatt.
A representative from the Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting, as is the case with all officer-involved shootings in the county.
