2023 Gatorade Player of the Year: Jadyn Donovan of Sidwell Friends

Published

on

Washington, DC’s own Jadyn Donovan, the #3 recruit in the Class of 2023 from Sidwell Friends School is the 2022-23 Gatorade District of Columbia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Donovan is the fourth Gatorade District of Columbia Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Sidwell Friends School. In her junior year at Sidwell Friends, she helped secure her school a perfect 30-0 record.

Senior Year

The 6-foot senior wing had led the Quakers to a 26-3 record and a berth in the DCSAA Tournament semifinals at the time of her selection. Donovan averaged 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game through 29 games.

A finalist for the Naismith Girls Basketball National Player of the Year award, Donovan is a McDonald’s High School All-American Game selection and a member of the Nike Hoop Summit Team USA squad. During her time on the Nike Hoop Summit Team USA squad, she had the opportunity to represent the United States in Hungary, where she helped secure a gold medal for Team USA.

More Than Basketball

A founding member of the Jr. NBA Court of Leaders mentorship program, Donovan has volunteered locally with the Dupont Park Adventist School as well as with the Allegheny East Conference as part of a project to distribute back-to-school supplies to families in need. She has also donated her time on behalf of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services and she’s an active member of her school’s Black Student Union.

“Jadyn is an all-around player,” said Andre Foreman, head coach of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. “She does everything for Sidwell. The thing I love most about Jadyn is she plays defense, rebounds and sacrifices her game for the sake of the team. She has the potential to take over the game at any given moment when it’s needed.”

The Duke Blue Devil recruit will be joining former Sidwell Friends High School basketball player Kara Lawson in Durham this upcoming season. Good Luck Jadyn, you have our support!
