The Benjamin Banneker basketball court restoration project on June 18th

Published

on

The Benjamin Banneker basketball court restoration project will be celebrated later this month by Washington Wizards All-Star guard and 2018-19 NBA Cares Community Assist Award winner Bradley Beal and the Hoop For All Foundation.

From 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, Beal, Hoop for All, the Washington Wizards, and the District of D.C. will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Ward 1 facility.

Hoop For All will give scholarships to graduating seniors in the D.C. area attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities as part of the celebrations (HBCUs). Everyone in attendance will also receive free health care resources from the charity. Finally, the Wizards will hold a free, drop-in youth basketball clinic for children ages 6 to 14.

Along with the reopening of the court, the event will mark Juneteenth. This Juneteenth will mark 157 years since enslaved Black Americans were freed in the United States.

“I’ve always wanted to work on a court project like this and Hoop For All made it happen. I look forward to continuing to see the incredible work they do here in our community. Having this event take place during the Juneteenth weekend is also special to me; our fight for social justice and equality continues.” – Bradley Beal

Hoop For All Foundation President Ayokunle Amoo had this to say about the upcoming event:

“The Banneker Basketball Court Refurbishment will enhance the recreation experience for thousands of Ward 1 D.C. residents. This project will not only provide the community with a newly renovated court, but will also increase the health awareness among adolescents, youth, and adults. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to launching more cause-related courts.” – Ayokunle Amoo

The Hoop For All Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that uses sports and athletics to offer communities access to health care services such as healthcare experts, health educational materials, healthcare tests, and inpatient help.

Hoop For All collaborates with national health groups to give preventative, diagnostic, and treatment information at sporting events. Hoop For All will hold its 10th Annual Cancer Awareness Basketball Tournament at the Banneker courts on September 10.
