A Bar Made Out Of An Old Metro Car Is Coming To Northeast D.C.

It has been announced that a bar will be coming out made out of a 5000 series rail car, according to the DCist.

Jesse Rauch, a former D.C. Public School teacher who started the District Karaoke league, claims that he came up with the idea of making a bar out of a trail car while having drinks with his business partners.

His friends asked, “What if we could get our hands on a metro train car? What would we do with it?”

As it turns out, the Metro was retiring its 5000 series railcars. Rauch, having this knowledge, called the transit agency and offered to buy two of the cars to turn them into cultural venues of some kind named Metrobar.

The indoor will have tile flooring adjacent to that of Metro trains. Outside of the patio group tables and chairs will be able to seat 350 people across 11,000 square feet.

The “train” is scheduled to open near the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood station in spring and will serve only local beer, wine and liquor with space for food trucks to pull up.
