An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday night in Southeast D.C., police say. Officers and medics responded to the 1400 block of Cedar Street SE about 9:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

Police Chief Peter Newsham said five men were “shooting up the area” near the Frederick Douglass Community Center at the Frederick Douglass Garden Apartments.

Gunfire struck the boy and medics rushed him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
