Ravens LB Matthew Judon Fine With Franchise Tag

1x Pro Bowler Matthew Judon Is Fine With His Franchise Tag.

Two weeks ago the Ravens and their linebacker Matthew Judon agreed to a $16.8 million franchise tag. For the 2019 season, Judon earned a career-high 54 tackles, 9.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 33 quarterback hits.

The fifth-year player looks to capitalize on his first Pro Bowl season this upcoming season. Fans won’t have to worry about him being upset about the franchise tag rather then him getting a long term deal.

“I’m pleased to be tagged. I feel like only a few players get to go through this in their lifetime. As much as I want stability in the future, I’m proud of where I’m at and where I came from, a fifth-round draft pick. I’m pleased with how my career’s been going.”

“As far as the progress, we still have until the 15th. I think we got 30 more days to work out a long-term contract. We’re just going to see how it goes from there. I’m happy to be a Raven. I want to stay here as long as I play, but I understand that it’s a business.”

This is important because Judon has until July 15 to reach a long-time deal with the Ravens. So him being happy means fans won’t have to worry about him leaving the team after the 2020 season. Judson said he understands the business of the NFL and other young players on the team are seeking contracts as well. MVP Lamar Jackson, Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and Pro Bowl left tackle Ronnie Stanley just to name a few.

“We’ve got a lot of young talent and unfortunately we all can’t stay on a rookie deal our whole careers. They have stuff they have to address, and obviously I have needs as well. So if we can meet and work on that, I’m A-Okay with that.”

“As long as I get to continue to play this game, I’m going to feel blessed.  “If I have to play under the tag, that’s good for me. After that, it will be my sixth year playing in the National Football League. Hopefully, we can work something out.”
