Two men are behind bars after authorities say a routine shoplifting incident at a Publix in Stafford County turned into an armed confrontation with an employee. According to investigators, the incident happened at a Publix location in Stafford County when the suspects pushed a shopping cart filled with groceries out of the store without paying. An employee attempted to stop them, but the situation quickly escalated. Deputies say one of the men pulled out a firearm and threatened the worker before both suspects abandoned the cart and ran from the scene.
Law enforcement responded quickly and located the pair nearby. Deputies arrested both men without further incident, bringing the situation to a safe end within minutes of the robbery. A firearm was recovered during the arrest. One of the suspects now faces multiple serious charges, including robbery, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, brandishing a weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, and theft-related offenses. The second suspect is charged with shoplifting and petit larceny. Both men are currently being held at the Stafford County Adult Detention Center on secured bonds as they await their next court appearances.
Authorities continue to remind residents and retail employees to avoid direct confrontation during thefts and to alert law enforcement immediately when a situation appears unsafe.
