Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, 37, announced Monday she is running for D.C. mayor. A Democrat representing Ward 4 since 2021, she said she’s entering the race to address rising housing costs, economic pressures, and to “stand up to corruption and greed.”
A D.C. native, Lewis George graduated from St. John’s University and Howard University School of Law, later serving as an assistant attorney general under Karl A. Racine. Her campaign launch follows Mayor Muriel Bowser’s announcement that she will not seek a fourth term.
