Attempted Robbery At Royal Farms In Baltimore For A Pack Of Cigarettes, Suspect Still At-Large
A chaotic scene broke out Tuesday night at a Royal Farms near S. Monroe St. and Washington Blvd., where cell phone video captured a fight sparked by an attempted cigarette theft. The footage shows two men wrestling behind the counter, nearly knocking over a woman, before the struggle spilled outside. One man was seen punching and kicking the alleged shoplifter.
Baltimore police first classified the case as a robbery, later reclassifying it as a larceny. Investigators say the fight was over a few packs of cigarettes, which the suspect is seen holding as a bystander tried to stop him. A local resident who watched the video said citizens are growing frustrated with shoplifting. Asked what should happen to the man who assaulted the suspect, she replied, “Honestly nothing… he was doing the right thing.”
The suspect escaped before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made. Police say the investigation is ongoing and have not determined whether the other man in the video could face assault charges.
