Published

on

As police continue to confront an increased rate of violent crime, city officials in Baltimore are concerned about an increase in robberies.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the city has registered 714 robberies so far this year, up nearly 25% from 573 robberies during the same period last year.

Convenience shop robberies have increased by 300 percent this year, with more than 80 reported so far.

The rise in robberies coincides with an increase in the city’s homicide rate, according to Baltimore police.

So far this year, 76 individuals have been killed, compared to 65 in the same period last year.

In the same period, 156 persons were hurt in shootings, up from 115 in the previous year. Since 2015 the city has reported more than 300 homicides.
