Anacostia High School Students Relocated To Kramer Middle After Sewage Leak
Started on Wednesday, Anacostia High School students began attending nearby Kramer Middle School as cleanup continues from a weekend sewage leak that flooded parts of the high school. DCPS says high schoolers are taking classes on Kramer’s basement and first floor, while middle schoolers remain on the upper levels. The schools, just a block apart, can accommodate both since Kramer’s capacity is 550 students—well above its current enrollment. The leak occurred Sunday when a pump malfunctioned during DC Water maintenance, also flooding basements on Fairlawn Ave. SE. Although crews worked overnight to clean Anacostia High, lingering odors and damage forced early dismissal Monday and full closure Tuesday.
DCPS and the Department of General Services say they are working with DC Water and cleanup contractors to ensure the school is safe before reopening. Officials haven’t said how long students will remain at Kramer.
