Montgomery County Teacher Sentenced To 30 Years For Sexual Abuse of Minor.

A former Montgomery County teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old middle school student more than 20 times has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Melissa Curtis, 32, will serve all but 12 months of the sentence, followed by five years of supervised probation. Upon her release, she will be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years and will not be allowed unsupervised contact with minors other than her children.

Curtis was sentenced on Friday, November 15, after pleading guilty to three counts of third-degree sex offenses on June 20.

The investigation into Curtis began in October 2023 when the victim came forward with allegations of sexual abuse while attending Lakelands Park Middle School, where Curtis was teaching. Court documents reveal that Curtis had sexual intercourse with the student more than 20 times during his eighth-grade year and also provided him with alcohol and marijuana.

A warrant for Curtis’s arrest was issued on October 31, 2023, charging her with sexual abuse of a minor and multiple third- and fourth-degree sexual offenses. She turned herself in on November 7.
