A jury has convicted a Columbia teenager for his role in the deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two teens outside Columbia Mall last year, closing a major chapter in one of Howard County’s most heartbreaking cases. Prosecutors proved that Emmetson Zeah, now 19, carried out the February 2025 attack through a trail of digital and physical evidence. Jurors found Zeah guilty of two counts of first-degree murder along with multiple firearms-related charges after reviewing surveillance footage, GPS data, and forensic evidence that placed him at the scene.
The shooting unfolded just outside the mall in Columbia, Maryland, a busy area normally filled with shoppers and families. The violence shocked the community and sparked renewed conversations around youth violence and gun access in the region. Investigators built their case using video from nearby cameras, location data that tracked movements before and after the shooting, and physical evidence recovered during the investigation. That combination ultimately tied Zeah to the crime and led to the conviction. Families of the victims sat through weeks of testimony as the case moved through the courts, hoping for accountability. The verdict now brings a measure of closure, though the loss still weighs heavily across the community.
A judge has scheduled sentencing for May 22, 2026. Zeah faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
