Terra Stephens Is Helping a Generation Choose Purpose Over Popularity
In a world driven by likes, trends, and constant validation, Terra Stephens is focused on something different. She is focused on real change. Terra created Chase Change after recognizing the pressure today’s youth face to be accepted and admired, especially in a digital space where popularity can easily overshadow purpose. She saw how quickly identity can get tied to algorithms and outside opinions. Instead of ignoring it, she built something to challenge it.
For Terra, the mission is clear. Young people deserve to understand their value beyond what is trending. They deserve space to grow, lead, and evolve on their own terms. That belief sits at the center of Chase Change, a Gen Z-inspired nonprofit rooted in transformation, empowerment, and advocacy. Through the organization, Terra creates experiences that go beyond surface-level motivation. She focuses on mentorship, mental health, and community building in ways that feel real and accessible.
Terra’s work extends into schools and community programs. She facilitates workshops with The Boris L. Henson Foundation in Prince George’s County middle and high schools, as well as with Sasha Bruce. She currently serves as a success coach for the youngest council member in Prince George’s County history, Council Chair Ed Burroughs III, supporting his Student Leadership Academy and helping shape the next generation of civic leaders.

Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Springfield, Virginia, Terra faced adversity early in life, including periods of youth homelessness. During that time, she found support and stability at Covenant House Greater Washington, an experience that helped shape her path forward. Today, she serves as a Board Member for the same organization, creating a full-circle moment rooted in purpose and giving back.
That journey continues to influence how she shows up in her work. Terra does not speak at young people, she speaks with them. She understands the challenges they face because she has lived through them.
Chase Change, Terra’s Gen Z–inspired nonprofit, is rooted in transformation, empowerment, and advocacy. The organization serves youth and young adults ages 12–25, a demographic Terra passionately supports because it reflects her own lived experiences. Her dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed—she was recognized in 2025 by Radio One’s 93.9 WKYS as Woman of the Year for her work in the community.
Through Chase Change, Terra focuses on youth and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25. It is a community she remains deeply connected to because it reflects her own journey. She continues to create spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.
This Women’s History Month, Terra Stephens represents a generation of leaders who are not waiting for change bur rather creating it. And in doing so, she is reminding young people of something simple but powerful. They are more than what the world tells them to be.
