Wizards Go All-In: Washington’s New Era Begins with Trae Young, Anthony Davis, and AJ Dybantsa
The Wizards have wasted no time reshaping the franchise. Ahead of the 2026 trade deadline, Washington landed both Trae Young and Anthony Davis in blockbuster deals before winning the NBA Draft Lottery in May and selecting AJ Dybantsa with their No. 1 overall pick.
After years of rebuilding, the organization has officially shifted its focus toward competing for a playoff berth, even a championship. To reinforce that commitment, the Wizards signed Young to a four-year, $212 million contract, viewing him and Davis as the veteran foundation of a team built to contend while helping develop a talented young core led by Dybantsa.

The next priority should be locking up Davis long-term. Beginning Aug. 6, the veteran forward becomes eligible for a four-year contract extension, with the first season replacing his $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.

A New Chapter in Washington
For the first time in years, optimism surrounds the Wizards organization. A proven All-Star backcourt leader, an experienced defensive anchor, and one of the NBA’s most promising young prospects give Washington a foundation few rebuilding teams can match. Expectations have changed, and so has the timeline. The rebuild appears to be over.
Now, the real challenge begins.
