Psalm + Petal Co.: Turning Grief, Faith and Beauty Into Meaningful Floral Experiences

For Janell, flowers have become more than something beautiful to look at. They have become a way to express love, create connection and find meaning in seasons of both celebration and uncertainty.
As the owner of Psalm + Petal Co., Janell has created a boutique floral company specializing in luxe arrangements and interactive flower bar experiences designed to make life’s special moments feel even more intentional. But the story behind the company goes much deeper than flowers.
Psalm + Petal Co. was born after Janell’s 11-year federal career came to an abrupt end last year amid the workforce changes associated with DOGE. While the transition brought grief and uncertainty, Janell decided to transform that experience into something meaningful. What could have simply been the ending of one career became the beginning of a new creative chapter.
The foundation of Psalm + Petal Co. comes from a simple belief: love has the power to bring people together, soften difficult moments and remind us of the beauty woven into creation.
What began as Janell’s love for thoughtfully arranged blooms quickly evolved into a larger vision — creating floral experiences that feel just as meaningful as they are beautiful. Whether she’s designing a luxury arrangement, styling an interactive flower bar or carefully wrapping a bouquet, every detail is approached with intention.
The company is rooted in faith, elevated design and the belief that people deserve to feel celebrated, connected and inspired. For Janell, florals aren’t simply decoration. They can become part of the memory itself.
That philosophy is also at the heart of the company’s name.
The word “Psalms” is often translated as “songs of praise,” but Janell’s connection to the biblical Book of Psalms goes beyond the joyful moments traditionally associated with praise. Psalms also contains expressions of grief, frustration, longing, uncertainty and quiet hope. For Janell, that honesty became especially meaningful during a stretching season in her own life.
She began to understand that people are capable of holding multiple emotions at once. Joy and grief can exist together. Love and frustration can coexist. Gratitude and pain can share the same space. And, perhaps most importantly, all of those emotions can still be worthy of acknowledgment.
That layered understanding of life is part of what shapes Psalm + Petal Co.
The brand embraces the idea that beauty doesn’t have to erase the difficult moments. Sometimes beauty can exist right alongside them.
Through its floral arrangements and interactive experiences, Psalm + Petal Co. creates opportunities for people to slow down, connect and celebrate the moments that matter. The flower bars in particular allow guests to participate in the creative process, turning flowers into an experience rather than simply something placed in the background of an event.
There is a quiet elegance to what Janell is building, but there is also something deeply personal behind it. Her work reflects a journey of taking an unexpected transition and turning it into an opportunity to create something rooted in purpose.
For Psalm + Petal Co., the mission isn’t simply to make flowers look good. It’s about creating something personal, memorable and full of quiet joy.
At its core, the company represents Janell’s belief that faith, beauty and human emotion don’t have to exist separately. They can all be woven together — one arrangement, one flower bar and one meaningful moment at a time.
It’s HIS love, wrapped in petals.
