Newark artist Mel Drugz reveals a new single titled “Manifest,” which he uses the tool of music to speak his goals into existence. Accompanied by a video shot by Wave Change, this single is a great listen and a must play. Watch the video and stream below:

About: Mel Drugz is a New Jersey artist who spent his early childhood in North Newark before growing up primarily in the city’s Central Ward. Music has always been present in his life. Coming from a family that is deeply music-oriented, he was surrounded by it from a young age. The personal impact became stronger when he discovered emotional, pain-driven, melodic rap. That style resonated with him, and by around nine years old, he began experimenting with his own stories in that lane.

Nearly a decade later, that foundation remains central to his sound.
He began taking music seriously when the reactions from people around him shifted. What started as something he loved creating became something bigger when consistent feedback from listeners affirmed that he had something different. For Mel Drugz, that recognition felt like confirmation that music wasn’t just an interest—it was his direction. His sound is melodic yet raw. He balances melody with hard-hitting production, delivering lyrics rooted in real-life experiences, self reflection, and growth.

Everything in his music comes from
his perspective—his thoughts, his ideas, and his creative flow. He does not model himself after trends or other artists. Instead, he has spent the past ten years crafting and evolving his own sound. His delivery, tone, and content are unfiltered and emotionally direct. Recurring themes in his music include love, pain, pain stemming from love, overcoming mental and life battles, and substance reliance. The subject matter is not pre-planned; it reflects
whatever he is experiencing or thinking about at the time of recording. He describes the process as therapeutic.

Mel Drugz differentiates himself through honesty and bluntness. He states that he is not trying to portray a false image or create music for the sake of trends. His primary motivation is his love for music. He identifies himself simply as Mel Drugz, emphasizing authenticity as his defining characteristic. Music has never been a hobby for him. He describes it as something that was always bigger than that. At sixteen, he dropped out of high school and committed fully to pursuing music. He has consistently viewed it as the only path he wanted to take.

His recording process typically involves freestyling and punching in. This method allows his flow, pitch, and delivery to align naturally with the melody of the beat. He finds that ideas and cadences come more fluidly this way. For industry professionals, Mel Drugz wants it understood that he is not a trend-driven artist. His music is built from pain, trauma, stress, and lived experience. He emphasizes work ethic, authenticity, and long-term commitment. He states clearly that he intends to take his career as far as physically possible.

Looking ahead, his stated goal is to leave a lasting imprint. While he keeps details about future sound evolution and collaborations private, he is focused on legacy. He wants his music to reach people who are struggling, particularly young listeners who feel unheard. He aims for his catalog to serve as something they can connect to and get through difficult moments with, drawing from his own lived experiences.

If someone reads his biography without hearing his music, Mel Drugz wants them to remember one thing: he considers himself real. For listeners who value authenticity, emotional delivery, and genuine storytelling, he positions himself as that artist.
